What help a man needs
SocratesWell, I know that I too would suffer that kind of thing if I came into a lawcourt. For I will not be able to tell them of pleasures I have provided, which these people hold to be benefactions and benefits, while I envy neither those who provide them nor the people they are provided for; and if anyone says that I corrupt younger people by leaving them at a loss, or that I abuse the older ones by speaking bitter words, either in private or in public, I will not be able to tell the truth—that it is justly that I say all these things, and that I do it for your own good, gentlemen of the jury—nor anything else. So perhaps, whatever comes my way, that is what I will suffer.
