Better, superior, stronger
SocratesBut do you call the same man better and superior? For I couldn’t learn from you then either what on earth you meant. Do you call the stronger superior, and must the weaker obey the stronger—the sort of thing you seemed to me to be pointing to then as well, that the great cities march against the small ones according to what is just by nature, because they are superior and stronger, as though the superior, the stronger and the better were the same thing—or can one be better yet inferior and weaker, and superior yet viler? Or is the definition of the better and of the superior the same? Define this very thing clearly for me: are the superior, the better and the stronger the same or different?
