SocratesSo we have time, it seems. And I fancy the cicadas above our heads, singing in this heat and conversing with one another, are watching us too. If they see us, like most people at midday, not conversing but dozing, lulled by their song through idleness of mind, they will have good reason to laugh at us. They will think some slaves have come to their refuge to sleep beside the spring like sheep in the midday heat. But if they see us conversing and sailing past them as past the Sirens, unenchanted, they may admire us and grant us the gift the gods gave them to bestow on human beings.
